Deserted Planet

Deserted planet was almost certainly influenced subconsciously by the books I was reading at the time, Red rising and Dune, but when I made this piece you might find it interesting to know that the planet wasn’t even my main focus until the end.

you see i wanted to experiment with making my background star scapes a bit more dynamic, I had already been using a combination of manually painting stars with the splatter technique but this time it was a bit different.

I wanted to add in color to the splattering of stars to mimic real space more accurately and this was my first attempt at doing so.

but that isn’t all i was also experimenting with creating background galaxies with this technique as well as can be seen in several parts of the painting.

ultimately I learned a lot about what does and does not work with this technique from this painting and have greatly refined my methods since because of what I learned.
