The Story of this Artwork
Dragons brood nebula is a piece I worked on for around two weeks at the end of may through start of June (2024) and started out fairly random. My underpainting was just a Bi pride flag that gives it the color scheme. However other than the colors I wanted to use I did not have much of a plan with this piece.
Eventually vague shapes started to emerge from each orientation as I worked on the piece more and more and at some point I saw it. The prominent silhouette of a dragon mid-flight dominating what is now the top left hand side of the work. Once I saw it, I couldn’t un-see it and so, I played into what I saw, and this is the result.
Now normally the story would end there, but for this unique piece we aren’t quite done yet. A few weeks later I was browsing DeviantArt and saw a depiction someone had done of the Fighting dragons of Ara also known as NGC6188. I saw their depiction and thought hey, that’s really similar to the piece I did a few weeks ago! So I googled the nebula itself and saw NASA’s Hubble images that basically looked like my painting if it was just at a 30 degree angle difference. Needless to say this freaked me out just a little bit.
Coincidently it also sent me down a rabbit hole of Hubble and Webb images that inspired some of my other artwork, such as Nativitas de Stellaris, and the Eye of the Sky. Both based heavily on satellite and telescope images of real places in space.
