The core in the upper left hand side of the image is reminiscent of an accretion disk that is forming on the outskirts of remnant nebula left behind after energetic cosmic events.

The Story of this Artwork

I worked on the maw of creation off and on for few months. It was a successful experimental piece that utilized a base layer of iridescent paint that I then went back in and added color and depth to in-between working on other pieces.

This happens to be the same process that i used for some of my other works such as Window of wonderland, Webb nebula and more to come in the future.

The maw of creation actually has major commonality with my Traelion cluster painting in that it is also a location within my writing universe.

The painting itself is depicting an accretion disk that is mid-formation on the outer edges of a highly energetic and chaotic Remnant nebula.

Accreation disks are spinning regions of gas and dust that forms around a massive object like a neutron star or black hole as it pulls in nearby material.

Remnant nebulas are the energized masses of dust and gasses that are left over after large scale stellar events like Supernovae and stellar collision’s.
