Commissioning Artwork: FAQ

Welcome to our guide on commissioning artwork! Here’s everything you need to know about the process, costs, timelines, and rights associated with commissioning a painting.

1. What’s Included in a Commission?

The artist will create a unique, original painting based on your preferences and specifications, using the dimensions and palette you choose.

You and the artist will negotiate a Contract based upon these following terms outlining the scope of work and estimated pricing. ALL commissions Require a contract signed and dated by both me (the artist) and you (the client) to be valid. Requests do not constitute a valid commission without a Signed contract.

2. How Much Will It Cost?

The minimum cost is based on a rate of $5.00 per square inch of canvas. Canvases over 36 inches or particularly challenging pieces might require a higher rate which will be discussed during negotiation of the contract.

3. Payment Terms

50% Upfront: An upfront payment of 50% of the estimated cost is required to begin the work.

50% on Completion: The remaining balance, including any additional fees (shipping, taxes, framing), is due once the work is complete.

4. How Long Does It Take?

The time it takes to create your painting depends on its size and complexity. As a general estimate, 1 hour is allotted per 10 square inches of canvas area.

For instance, a 16×20-inch painting (320 square inches) would have an estimated time of 32 hours.

If the artist requires extra time beyond this estimate, additional hours are billed at $50.00 per hour.

The artist will provide a reasonable completion date based on the specifics of the commission. Upon completion, you’ll be notified, and an invoice will be sent for the remaining balance. After final payment, the work will be delivered to the address you provide.

Once the final payment is made, you will own the physical painting.
